Flirty Valentine’s Day Look Inspired by the Film: How to Be Single

I must confess, I drank the Valentine’s Day kool-aid when I was born and I’m 100% into sending cards and eating little candy hearts! So of course, I’m thrilled to be sharing this flirty V-day ensemble with you.

Today’s look is sprinkled with irony because the film that inspired it is actually centered on the idea of appreciating your “single days”.

That said, I don’t believe that Valentine’s Day is only about romantic love. I like to see it as a day to appreciate all types of love and friendship. You can ask your grandma to be your Valentine and send her some chocolates or you can grab dinner with your bestie to celebrate your friendship!

You can even spend the day indulging yourself in some self-love. A mani-pedi, a massage, heck even a long hot shower with a few scented candles is more than I do for myself on a regular basis!

THE OUTFIT

Recreating the outfit was pretty easy. The biggest challenge was finding a flattering gingham skirt. The ruffles on this one did help distract from my tummy area but honestly, I wouldn’t want to wear it again without Spanx!

If you have room in your closet, I would recommend adding this outfit to your arsenal! It’s flirty, fun, and the skirt can be styled SO MANY WAYS!! You know what, I’ll do a follow up post to show you exactly what I mean.

And believe it or not, both items are from Amazon and can be purchased here:

THE MAKEUP & HAIR

In the film, Alice, played by Dakota Johnson, barely has time for sleep because she’s so busy “embracing the single life” and trying to maintain a full time job.

That means her makeup is simple and slept in but still cute because this is a Hollywood rom com! She also walks around with basic hair most of the film so I decided to add some cute bouncy curls.

Below are all of the products I used and you can check out the video (below) for a step by step tutorial!

The thing about being single is, you should cherish it. Because, in a week, or a lifetime, of being alone, you may only get one moment. One moment, when you’re not tied up in a relationship with anyone. A parent, a pet, a sibling, a friend. One moment, when you stand on your own. Really, truly single. And then… It’s gone.
